Results of ‘UFS Chef of the Year 2009 Pakistan’ Declared

Karachi, 02 September 09:Unilever Foodsolutions (UFS) has announced the results of “UFS Chef of the year 2009 Pakistan” competition that was held on Aug 10, 2009 in Karachi. “UFS Chef of the year 2009 Pakistan” is Pakistan’s first professional cooking competition where UFS invited chefs from all over Pakistan to match their skills against the best chefs across the country and prove themselves in their culinary brilliance.

The winner of the competition, Mr. Qamar Munir Butt belongs to Marriott, Islamabad who will now represent Pakistan in a multi country competition in South Africa and compete with the best of chefs from South Africa, Middle East & Egypt, for the Regional Award “UFS Chef of the year 09”.

The judges at UFS selected six finalists in the first stage namely, Mr. Mubasher Ahmed (Marian Hotel Gujranwala), Mr. Kashif Baig (Café Ciao Karachi), Mr. Qamar Munir Butt (Marriott Islamabad), Mr. Khurram Hafeez Chaudhary (Lahore Garrison Golf and Country Club), Mr. Nauman Tabasum (MFC Lahore) and Mr. Abdul Jabbar (South End Club Karachi).

The winner, Mr. Qamar Munir was born in Rawalpindi and has already worked for some UK based restaurants. He took part in a chef competition in UK as well where he got qualified being the runner up.

The judges who participated in the competition to evaluate the cooking expertise of the participants were Mr. Craig Elliott, National Culinary Chef Unilever Foodsolutions South Africa, Mr. Khalid Abbas, F & B Director Ramada Plaza Karachi and Mr. Farooq Khan, COO Safron Culinary Islamabad.

Mr. Hashim Shouket, Business Director Unilever Foodsolutions Pakistan, commented on the occasion that this competition would be a stepping stone in promoting ‘chefmanship’ in Pakistan. It would also promote Pakistan’s food service market where more people will take pride in being professional chefs and will start taking this seriously as a career. “Our products are designed to facilitate the task of a modern chef.
