Child health & nutrition
This edition of the Symposium Series booklets captures the in-depth presentations and discussions during our symposium of 2001.
Nutrition intervention through food fortification is efficacious
Generally, the health and nutrition status of a child is the result of a combination of factors: a healthy family diet, physical activity, a healthy environment and economic development. Experience gained in developing and industrialised countries has shown that nutrition intervention through food fortification is very efficacious and safe. Deficiencies of micronutrients including vitamin A, iodine, iron and zinc affect about half of the world population mostly in developing countries. These deficiencies are associated with a variety of health problems.
