Unilever Nutrition Network Asia

The Unilever Nutrition Network ‘Asia’ has experts based in Thailand and India and is still expanding. The activities of the Network stretch from China to Indonesia. A strong focus lies on India, which not only is the habitat of one-sixth of the world’s population but also of one-third of the world’s malnourished children.

Halve child malnutrition in India within 10 years

The Unilever Nutrition Network Asia is collaborating with UNICEF to improve the child nutrition and health situation in India. The objective of the Indian Partnership for Child Nutrition project, called Bhavishya (Sanskrit for ‘future’) is to halve child malnutrition in India within ten years. Specifically this would mean reducing the percentage of children in India who are moderately or severely underweight from the current 47% to 23% by the end of 2015.

Improving mental & physical development of malnourished children

The Partnership for Child Nutrition wants to invent and implement breakthrough solutions for substantially improving the mental and physical development of malnourished children in India. It wants to achieve this on the basis of a new social change process that actively and systemically involves multi-stakeholders in identifying and implementing creative solutions aimed at improving child nutrition.
